Anomaly Detection

HostFi monitors your spending patterns and alerts you when something looks unusual.

How It Works

The system compares each new expense against your recent spending history for that category and property. If an expense is significantly higher than your rolling average, it’s flagged as an anomaly.

Types of Anomalies

  • Spending spike — An expense that’s unusually high compared to recent months
  • New vendor — A charge from a vendor you haven’t seen before
  • Duplicate charge — A potential duplicate expense (same amount, same vendor, close dates)

Viewing Anomalies

Anomalies appear in two places:

  • Dashboard — The Anomalies stat card shows the count of active anomalies
  • Alerts — The full alerts page shows details of each anomaly

Managing Anomalies

For each anomaly, you can:

  • Acknowledge — Mark it as seen but keep it active
  • Resolve — Confirm it’s legitimate and close it
  • Dismiss — Mark it as a false positive

Alert Notifications

If you have email alerts enabled, you’ll receive notifications when new anomalies are detected. Configure alert preferences in Settings.

Tip: The anomaly detection gets more accurate over time as it builds a history of your spending patterns. The first few months may have more false positives.
